Montblanc 264 Piston Fill Fountain

Pen Description

Montblanc 264  Piston Filling Fountain Pen in black resin with 14ct open style nib and gold plated trim. Produced in Germany, circa 1954.

Cap: Screw cap is fitted with gold filled pocket clip and broad gold filled lip band. MONT - BLANC name is stamped along the side of cap. Conical cap top with legendary Montblanc ‘snow cap’ signet.

Barrel and Section: Barrel has early, non coloured transparent ink view window. Knob at rear of barrel unscrews to operate piston filling mechanism, stamped with model number ‘264’. Curved profile finger grip section.

Pen measures 5.1/8 inches (13.0 cms) long with cap attached. Cap diameter: 13.5 mm. Weight: 18.2 grams.

Nib: Solid gold 14ct original open nib. Stamped ‘MONT - BLANC - 14C - MONTBLANC - 585 . Nib is ‘M’ medium, having good flex. It is an exceptionally smooth writer.


Pen has been comprehensively restored. Fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Piston feed mechanism and seal lightly lubricated  Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.

General Condition

Pen barrel and cap are free from significant scratches, with no dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no personalisation's. Clear impressions to cap and piston knob. Crystal clear ink view window. Gold plating to pocket clip and cap band is excellent.

Piston filling system operates with ease and draws up good ink volume. Cap to barrel threads are positive. Cap rings and clip firm and tight. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition.

Hepworth Comment

Rarer 264 model, compared to the 254 released about the same time. When Montblanc created the 25x line, they began to use wing nibs and slip caps. But to satisfy those customers who did not want to take such a distinct step away from previous designs, the 264 was created with a traditionally shaped nib and a screw-on cap. One of the distinct advantages of the design is that the model is not as susceptible to the pressure cracks in the cap that is regularly seen on the 25x pens.
