Nib and Feed
Original solid 14 carat large gold nib. Nib is stamped ‘PARKER - DUOFOLD - PEN - CANADA’. The nib has a medium (M) writing tip. Canadian nibs tended to be more flexible than USA versions, this is very much in evidence with this particular nib. Iridium tip lays down a smooth wet line. Ink feeder is the original 'Christmas tree' BHR design, with curved ink flow stabiliser at rear..
Service and Restoration
Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Nib and feed removed from section, cleaned and re-aligned with feed before being aligned and reset into section. Pressure bar and ink sac replaced. Pressure bar is of the original design, three part, suspended. The latex ink sac is the original bulbous design, to maximise on ink capacity. Partially worn gold plating on clip and cap band has been chemically removed, polished and re-electroplated with 12 carat gold. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished with barrel imprint masked. Write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no noticeable scratches and no personalisation's. Barrel imprint is excellent, as is clip stamping. Gold plating to clip and cap ring is excellent. Cap to barrel screw is positive, but with slight age related ware to threads. Clip is firm. Milling to cap top and blind barrel cap is good, showing only minor evidence of ware. Although not noticeable to the naked eye, under macro examination, there is a small hairline crack evident at rear of nib breather piercing (see image 20). We would classify this pen as being in very good to excellent condition. Pen is sold in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
One of the all time classic fountain pens from the 1920's. The tiny hairline crack to nib is stable, and does not effect overall writing performance. Asking price reflects this minor flaw.
