The Sailor King of Pen Black Ebonite with Gold Trim fountain pen is handcrafted from high-quality ebonite. Part of Sailor's exclusive Bespoke Collection.
A favourite among those who prefer a larger-size writing instrument, the Sailor King of Pen Black Ebonite with screw on cap and gold trim is a study in streamlined style and simplicity. Handcrafted ebonite hard rubber and Sailor 21k nib combine to create a unique and starkly beautiful pen.
Sailor's smooth-writing 21k nib offers a writing experience unique to this brand. The King of Pen nib has a subtle springiness which provides a different feel on the page than the more rigid nib used in the 1911 Full Size and Pro Gear series pens.
Ebonite hard rubber is a classic material for quality fountain pens. The surface is polished to provide a subtle tactile gleam. This writing instrument can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use convenient Sailor brand ink cartridges.
The King of Pen ships in a dark wood presentation box which includes all papers, a converter, ink cartridges, a polishing cloth, and a bottle of Sailor ink.

Solid 21ct gold with rhodium plated inlay. Nib is stamped '1911- (Anchor Logo) - 21K - 875 - Sailor - JAPAN. Side of nib is stamped with the letter 'B' for Broad. Japaneese nib tips tend to be one size finer than western nibs, we would classify the nib on this pen as being a Medium 'M'. Nib has both spring and flex, and is a very smooth writer.
Service and Restoration
Pen has been fully serviced. Nib and feed assembly removed for cleaning. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, dip write tested and finally flushed with clean de-ionised water.

Gold plating to clip and section band is excellent with no signs of ware. Barrel and cap have a gloss sheen. Cap to barrel screw is firm and positive. Overall pen is ready to write and is in near mint condition.
Pen is supplied in original silk lined wooden presentation box, with outer cream card sleeve. Box includes 50ml bottle of black Sailor 'Jentle' ink, ink converter and a box (10) sailor black ink cartridges, full set of papers and a polishing cloth.
Being a Montblanc fan, I was pleasantly surprised with the overall appearance and preformance of this Sailor King of Pens. In size it compares with the Montblanc Meisterstuck 149. Ebonite has a tactile feel compared with the glass like acrylic resin of the Montblanc. The huge 21K gold nib has just enough flex, allowing the tip to glide across paper.
