Pelikan M400 (old style) fountain pen with striated green celluloid barrel, black cap and piston filling knob. Differential piston filling system. 14C - 585 gold nib. A precision instrument of the highest quality. Made in West Germany during the late 1980's. Complete with original box and papers.
In 1982 Pelikan re-established the production of high-quality fountain pens. In 1965, Pelikan stopped producing the 400NN, and after this Merz & Krell only produced it for a period. The return to old values is shown by the fact that the only substantial difference between the new M400 and the old 400 is the feed. Modern feeds are produced by injection moulding, so finer fins are possible, which run across rather than along the length of the nib. This model preceded the Pelikan M400 Souverän, and was in production between 1982 and 1997.
Nib and Feed: Solid 14C gold nib. Intricate scrollwork, stamped with Pelikan circular signet and 'Pelikan - 14C - 585 - OB'. Hand crafted with fine writing tip. Exceptionally smooth, having moderate flex. Plastic ink feeder with horizontal combs.

Service and Restoration
No restoration required, the pen appears to be in very excellent condition. We have however, disassembled all parts for full service. Nib, feed and retaining collar ultrasonically cleaned. Nib correctly aligned with feed and locked with retaining collar. Piston mechanisum removed and cleaned, piston and seal lightly lubricated Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are as new with no personalisation. Gold plating to clip and trim shows no signs of ware. Resin has high gloss sheen. Piston moves with ease and draws a full barrel of ink. We would classify this pen as being in very excellent condition. Pen is supplied with original Pelikan packaging, including stamped papers.
A true classic of the pen world.
