Restoration/ Service

Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned. Nib and feed removed from section, nib polished and re-aligned with feeder. Gold plating on lip and cap rings has been removed, polished an re- electroplated with 14K gold.  Piston filling mechanism removed, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted for maximum piston travel. Piston vacuum pressure checked. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.

General Condition

Pen barrel and section are free from cracks, hairlines and noticeable surface scratches. Gold plating shows now signs of pitting or surface ware, as mentioned clip and cap rings have been re-gold plated. There are no personalisation. The ink view window is exceptionally clear. Barrel to cap threads are firm and positive, as is the clip. Barrel and cap have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.

Hepworth Comment

Most montblanc collectors will be aware of the 1950's models 252, 254 and 256. These pens had slip-on caps and winged nibs. The 264 was only produced for two years from 1957 to 1959. Its design, although similar in appearance, incorporated a more traditional open style nib and more importantly the mostly preferred screw-on cap. Earlier versions had a plain cap lip band and a Montblanc logo on side of cap. This later version has model number on cap lip band with no model heat stamping to piston turning knob.
