Restoration/ Service

Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned. Nib and feed removed from section, nib polished and re-aligned with feeder. Piston filling mechanism removed, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted for maximum piston travel, checked for good vacuum. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.

General Condition

Pen barrel and cap are free from cracks, hairlines and noticeable surface scratches. There is no personalisation. Gold plating to clip and cap band is very good with no brassing or age related ware. Barrel and cap have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. Cap to barrel screw thread is firm and positive, as is the clip. Overall this writing instrument is ready to write and is in excellent overall condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.

Hepworth Comment

This highly sort after version of the Montblanc 3-44G was only manufactured from 1953 to 1954. This early model has it's reference number heat stamped into the filling knob, with a plain gold filled lip band, located above cap lip. The Montblanc logo is heat stamped into side of cap. Rather than having a solid white Montblanc star on the cap top, this early model has an engraved outline of the iconic Montblanc star. The flat ebonite ink feed, cap ring above cap lip, short piston filling knob, are also indicators of the pen being an early model.
