Early version Montblanc 3-42.G vintage fountain pen in gloss black resin with gold plated trim. Screw cap. 14C 585 flexible nib with kugel medium writing tip. Piston filling. Germany c.1953.
Black resin screw-on cap. Domed resin cap top with white Montblanc outlined 'Snow-cap' signet inset. Gold filled ring top pocket clip. Gold filled broad lip band. 'MONT (mountain) BLANC' heat stamped into side of cap.
Black resin barrel and curved section, which has a pale blue long translucent ink view window which is partially visible when pen is capped. Screw knob at rear of barrel which operates brass piston filling mechanism with elastomer piston seal. Knob is heat stamped either side '3-42G' and ‘KM’.
Original 14C gold medium kugel (ball ended) nib with plenty of iridium tipping. Stamped: 'MONT' 'BLANC' - 14C - MONTBLANC - 585' also stamped '342' unseen at base of nib. Nib is nicely flexible. Ebonite (BHR) flat (ski-slope) ink feeder.

Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned. Nib and feed removed from section, nib polished and re-aligned with feeder. Gold plating on lip and cap Lip ring has been removed, polished an re- electroplated with 14K gold. Piston filling mechanism removed; cleaned, lubricated and adjusted for maximum piston travel. Piston vacuum pressure checked. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel, cap and section are free from cracks, hairlines and noticeable surface scratches. Gold plating shows now signs of pitting or surface ware. There are no personalisation. The ink view window is exceptionally clear. Barrel to cap threads are firm and positive. The clip is firmly held in position. Barrel and cap have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. The heat stampings to cap and piston knob are deep and well defined. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
This early version of the Montblanc 34-2.G has it's model number and nib size and type heat stamped on piston filling knob, as opposed to engraved on cap lip band on later models. Great daily user, but due to condition, would not be out of place in any collection.
