S.T. Dupont Olympio/Orpheo 480101M large size, barleycorn patterned sterling silver plated fountain pen. Cartridge or piston convertor filling. Made in France, first sold 2004.
The machining, to create the barleycorn finish on this pen is wonderful. Each engraved line is slightly undercut and the undercut part faceted. This produces an amazing effect. The lines directly in line of sight show only the flat top, as the angle changes you see the faceted effect and as you see beyond the depth of the engraving the lines appear smooth again. The look changes constantly; playing with light, shadow and viewing angle.
Pen has a slip on cap, when rear posted the overall length is only fractionally longer than it's capped length. Engraved around the section end of barrel 'S.T. Dupont - PARIS'. The cap clip has a distinctive black enamel square inlaid to top. Clip hinge is spring loaded and at top side is engraved 'MADE IN FRANCE - 5A1LJ46' the number being this pens individual serial number.
Handcrafted with curved edges, finely engraved dual tone 18K / 750 gold nib with medium (M) writing tip. Fairly firm, exceptionally smooth writing tip.

The Dupont convertor for use with bottled ink is fitted within pen. We would consider this pen and packaging to be in overall excellent condition.
The Dupont Olympio is quite a heavy pen, due to it's all metal construction. The manufacturers attention to detail is unprecedented. The nib is quite firm but is an exceptionally smooth writer.
