Pen has been conservatively restored. Fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Cap clip has been stripped of old worn gold and re-electro-plated with 12 ct gold. Piston mechanism removed, piston seal pressure adjusted and lightly lubricated. Nib and feed re-aligned within BHR collar. Section and nib assembly rosin sealed back into barrel. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket clip and cap band is excellent, showing no signs of age related ware. Piston filling system has been fully overhauled, piston slides with ease and draws up good ink volume. Ink view window is exceptionally clear. Cap to barrel threads, firm and positive, as is the clip. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
The heat stamped numbers on the piston knob are '042'. This would suggest that the original nib would have been made of steel. At some stage in this pens history, the steel nib has been replaced with the gold version of the Monte Rosa nib, normally found on the '042-G'.
