Restoration/Service

Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. The ink capsule has been dismantled and fitted with a new pressure bar and Latex sac. Nib and feed removed from section, nib tines reset and tip honed. Nib polished, re-aligned with feed and re-fitted in section. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.

General Condition

Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no personalisation. 'Speedy Phil' filling system works perfectly, drawing maximum volume of ink. Gold plating to pocket clip and cap band is original and excellent. Cap to barrel threads firm and positive. Firm pocket clip. Barrel imprint excellent. Overall pen is ready to write and is in very excellent condition. Supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.

Hepworth Comment

Conway Stewart's 'Speedy Phil' ink fill concept was a radical change from their more traditional lever fill. Being somewhat more complex, there are very few of these pens still around in full working condition. The filling system is very sophisticated for the era of manufacture, however, extremely efficient. With a new latex ink sac and pressure bar fitted, this lovely fountain pen will continue to provide good service for another 50 years.
