RARE Pelikan Souveran M800 Piston Filling Black & Red Striated Fountain Pen with 18K Broad Two Tone Nib. Germany 2009.
A true classic of the pen world, the Souverän is famed for its distinctive striped barrel reminiscent of a pinstriped suit. The attention to detail sets this pen apart with its iconic clip, logo detail on the cap and nib, and its striped barrel that requires many steps to manufacture. The Souverän was originally launched in 1950 as the 400 range, and renamed the Souverän in the 1980s, quickly becoming Pelikan’s flagship collection. The M800 fountain pen's substantial size and distinctive broad profile suits larger hands, whilst the distinguished, iridescent red pinstriped barrel is enhanced by gloss black accents and polished gold trim.
The Pelikan M800 fountain pen is the second largest pen in Pelikan’s Souveran (Sovereign) range, and it the most popular model. The Pelikan Söuveran range come in 5 sizes from very small to very large and a range of colours. The M800 is a large and weighty, luxury fountain pen pen which features an 18 carat gold nib with rhodium decoration giving a two-tone finish.
The M800 has a partial brass internal mechanism, giving it a substantial weight. It can therefore only be filled with bottled ink. There is a small ink view window at the end of the barrel which indicated when the ink level inside the pen is low. The metal trim of the pen is 24 carat gold plated. The striped barrel body of the M800 is made from celluloid acetate which is a cotton derivative and so each one is slightly different to each other, much like wood has different knots and patterns. The black stripes are actually transparent, so you can see how much ink is left inside the pen by holding it up to a light.
The blue gift box included has a hinged lid, and is lined top and bottom with padded white silk.

A true classic of the pen world, the Souverän is famed for its distinctive striped barrel. The red striated barrel version of the M800 is the rarest of all the colours, for some reason Pelikan decided to withdraw this colour around 2014. Verify beautiful model & hard to find, a real rare collectible pen.
