Rare Montblanc 262 vintage fountain pen in black resin with gold plated trim and a 14ct 585 multi purpose nib. Piston filling. Germany mid 1950's.
Black resin slip-on cap. Domed resin cap top with white Montblanc 'Snow-cap' signet inset . Gold filled, ring top pocket clip. Single gold filled lip band with 'V V V V V' pierced and blacked around circumference. The 'V' stands for Vielzweckfeder, translated from German means multi purpose nib.
Black resin barrel and section which has a clear transparent ink view window. Raised gold filled cap retention band between section and ink view. Screw knob at rear of barrel which operates piston filling mechanism, knob is heat impressed with ‘262’.
Nib and Feed
Original solid gold 14ct multi purpose (vielzweckfeder) nib which is stamped ‘MONTBLANC - 14C - MONTBLANC - 585 - 262 ’. Nib writing tip is ball ended and is suitable for left or right handed users. Nib has moderate flex, providing a range of line widths, depending on writing pressure. Nib writes exceptionally smoothly. Flat ebonite (ski slope) ink feeder

Pen has been carefully restored. Fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Piston mechanism removed and lightly lubricated. Writing tip honed and finely tuned. Nib and feed re-aligned within BHR collar. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from noticeable scratches, with no dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket clip and cap band is excellent, showing very little sign of age related ware. Piston filling system has been fully overhauled, piston slides with ease and draws up good ink volume. Ink view window is exceptionally clear. Cap clutch retention is firm and positive. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon box.
Rare and difficult to find Montblanc 262 fountain pen, especially in this condition. Very distinctive 'V' markings around cap band indicating nib type. Highly collectable, but equally a desirable everyday writer.
