Nib and Feed
Original solid 14ct gold nib stamped within circle ‘Pelikan - 14C - 585 - (Pelikan 2 chick logo to inner circle) - KM’. Nib and four lamellae ebonite feed are secured by ebonite collar which screws into the section. Nib tip is kugel medium 'KM', nib itself has good flex and writes a smooth line.
Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Filling mechanism removed and piston seal replaced, piston screw and seal lightly lubricated. Nib and feed correctly aligned, tip honed. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap have no cracks, hairlines or dents. Age-related surface scratches are minimal. Gold plating to clip, clip ring and cap band is excellent. Cap to barrel screw is firm and positive. Barrel clarity is exceptionally good. Piston draws full capacity of ink. We would classify this pen as being in excellent overall condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
Much sort after Pelikan 400 model with rarer tortoiseshell stripe barrel. Pen shows very little sign of age-related wear. The clarity of translucent celluloid barrel is exceptional for a pen nearly 65 years old.
