Conway Stewart 27 lever filling vintage fountain pen in 'Tiger Eye' patterned celluloid with gold filled trim. Made in England mid 1950’s.
Barrel and cap in helical golden-brown striped celluloid. Screw on/off cap has single broad gold filled cap band. Short pocket clip impressed with Conway Stewart signet, topped with black jewel. Gold filled lever filler clip has shield impressed with C.S. Signet. Barrel impression reads ‘Conway Stewart 27 - MADE IN ENGLAND’.
Capped Length: 5.12 ins (13.0 cms) long. Posted length: 6.14 ins (15.6 cms) Cap diameter: 13.2 mm. Weight: 15.8 grams.
Solid gold 14ct original Conway Stewart nib. Stamped ‘Conway - Stewart - 14 CT GOLD - 5’. Nib has a fine writing tip, it is a very smooth writer, having a modest flex.
Restoration and Service
Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. New latex sac fitted. Nib and feeder reset within section. Age worn gold on clip, cap band and filling lever chemically striped. Polished and electroplated with 12 carat gold. Nib tip carefully honed and tuned. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no cracks, hairlines or dents. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket clip, cap band and filling lever is excellent. Cap to barrel threads are firm and positive. Firm pocket clip. Filling lever removed for plating and replaced with new spring loaded location ring, positive operation. Barrel imprint excellent. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent overall condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
A good sized, well balanced fountain pen. The 1950's Conway Stewart 27 with Tiger Eye pattern is one of the most sort after English fountain pens for both collectors and enthusiasts.
