Clutch retained rolled gold cap, fitted with gold filled slim pocket clip, secured by black raised stud, topped with Montblanc signet. Cap has engraved vertical lines arranged in groups of five around circumference, also a rectangular cartouche for engraving. Cap lip band is inscribed ‘MONTBLANC - MEISTERSTÜCK - 74.
Barrel and section are gloss black resin. Ink view window has orange faceted over ring. Screw knob at rear of slim tapered barrel operates piston filling mechanism, gold filled band and Montblanc signet to flat end.
Pen measures 5.1/4 inches (13.5 cms) long with cap attached. Cap diameter: 13.5 mm. Weight: 19.2 grams.
Solid gold 18ct original wing-nib which is stamped ‘MONTBLANC - 18 C - 750 - 14’. Nib tip has plenty of iridium and writes with an oblique broad (OB) line. Nib writes very smooth, with moderate flex. Pen has a BHR ink feeder.
Pen has been fully serviced, no restoration required. All parts disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Spiral screw piston mechanism removed and seal lubricated. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean de-ionised water.
Pen barrel and section are free from cracks and hairlines. Cap has no dents, with no evidence of age related ware or loss of rolled gold. No personalisation to cartouche. Gold plating to clip and dress rings is excellent with no pitting or brassing. Cap lip stampings are bold and clear. Barrel and section have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. Ink view window is clear. Cap clutch and clip firm and positive. Overall pen is ready to write and is in very excellent condition. Supplied in original Montblanc tortoiseshell case. The case is in very good condition with minor traces of usage to bottom silk pad.
The 1960's model 74 is the rolled gold cap version of the Meisterstuck 14. This particular fountain pen is a early model, having BHR nib and feeder retaining collar. This stunning fountain pen has seen very little use, and has been very well cared for.
