Pelikan Souveran M600 Piston Filling Black & Red Striated Fountain Pen with 14K Fine Two Tone Nib. Germany 2012.
A true classic of the pen world, the Souverän is famed for its distinctive striped barrel reminiscent of a pinstriped suit. The attention to detail sets this pen apart with its iconic clip, logo detail on the cap and nib, and its striped barrel that requires many steps to manufacture. The Souverän was originally launched in 1950 as the 400 range, and renamed the Souverän in the late 1980s, quickly becoming Pelikan’s flagship collection. The distinguished, iridescent red pinstriped barrel is enhanced by gloss black accents and polished gold trim. The Pelikan M600, at 133 mm capped is a good sized fountain pen with broad profile.
The Pelikan M600 fountain pen is in the middle of Pelikan’s Souveran (Sovereign) range, and arguably it is the most popular model. The Pelikan Söuveran range come in 5 sizes from small to large and a range of colours. The M600 features an 14 carat gold nib with rhodium decoration giving a two-tone finish.
The M600 has a partial brass internal mechanism, giving it a substantial weight. It can therefore only be filled with bottled ink. There is a small ink view window at the end of the barrel which indicates when the ink level inside the pen is low. The metal trim of the pen is 24 carat gold plated. The striped barrel body of the M600 is made from celluloid acetate which is a cotton derivative and so each one is slightly different to each other, much like wood has different knots and patterns. The black stripes are actually transparent, so you can see how much ink is left inside the pen by holding it up to a light.
The pen is supplied in a luxury gift box, having leatherette removable base panel, under which you will find a Pelikan 'Moments of Joy' brochure along with stamped and signed warranty papers. A white leatherette pouch is also supplied for protecting your pen day to day. A white card outer box finishes the presentation

A true classic of the pen world, the Souveran is famed for its distinctive striped barrel. The red striated barrel version of the M600 is the rarest of all the colours, for some reason Pelikan decided to withdraw this colour around 2014. Verify beautiful model & hard to find, a rare collectible pen.
