Restoration/ Service

Pen has been fully disassembled down to individual components and ultrasonically cleaned. Nib and feed removed from section, nib polished and re-aligned with feeder within locking collar. Piston filling mechanism removed, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted for maximum piston travel. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.

General Condition

Pen barrel and cap are free from cracks, hairlines and noticeable surface scratches. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to clip and cap band is very good with no brassing or age related ware. Barrel and cap have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. Cap to barrel screw thread is firm and positive. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent overall condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.

Hepworth Comment

This Montblanc 344 was manufactured from 1957 to 1959. Earlier models had their reference number heat stamped into filling knob, with a plain gold filled band positioned slightly above cap lip. This later version of the Montblanc 344 had the Montblanc name and reference number engraved into the cap lip. The curved section and clear ink view window suggest that this pen is a transitional model.
