Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 piston filling fountain pen. First introduced in the late 40's, the 149 has remained Montblanc's Flagship fountain pen to this day. On offer we have a boxed c.1999 model 10578, with cap and barrel in black 'precious resin' and gold filled fittings. A large 18 carat gold, three tone nib is the crowning glory.
Screw-on black resin cap has Montblanc 'White Snowcap' signet inlaid to top. Triple gold filled cap bands, the wider raised middle band carries the diagonally hatched inscription 'MONTBLANC - MEISTERSTUCK - No 149' around circumference. Gold filled cap clip, it is engraved to clip ring 'GERMANY' and unique serial number: 'GP1021362'.
Black single piece resin barrel and section. Above barrel threads, the ink view window which has alternating clear and black panels. Black resin piston filling knob with brass threaded piston cone and gold filled dress ring. By unscrewing the piston cone, a single stage helix screw drives the piston up and down the barrel to fill the pen.
Solid 18 carat gold, tri-tone nib (gold - platinum - gold). Intricate scrollwork. Stamped with '4810 - M (within Montblanc logo) - 18K - MONTBLANC - 750 - 149'. Hand crafted with oblique medium writing tip. Very smooth writer having moderate flex. The factory 'OM' grind allows a good range of line widths.

Pen has been fully serviced. Totally disassembled to component level. All parts ultrasonically cleaned. Piston worm screw mechanism lightly lubricated. Piston assembly replaced in rear of barrel and vacuum tested. Feed assembly correctly aligned. Nib tip delicately honed and tuned before re-aligning with ink feeder into locking collar. Nib assembly and section sealed into barrel. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, dip write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no cracks, hairline’s or dents. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to clip and trim is excellent. Resin has high gloss sheen. Cap to barrel threads positive. Piston operation smooth, drawing full ink volume. We would classify this pen as being in very excellent condition. Supplied in genuine Montblanc presentation case, outer black card box and white protection sleeve User/service instruction booklet, stamped and dated.
The Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 in black precious resin, is a majestic fountain pen, built to the highest German standards. The original design dates back to the late 1940's. Due to specification modifications over the years, we are able to date this particular pen to around 1999. Micro examination of the nib writing tip suggests that this medium tip is the original factory grind, with no signs of ware.
