Nib and Feed
Original open style solid gold 14ct nib which is stamped 'MONTBLANC
- 14C - MONTBLANC - 585'. Nib writing tip is 'F' fine and nicely flexible, and
is exceptionally smooth. Round ebonite ink feeder.
Pen has been conservatively restored. Fully disassembled and
ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. Piston mechanism
removed and lightly lubricated. Nib and feed re-aligned within BHR
collar. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write
tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no dents, cracks
or hairlines. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket
clip and cap band is excellent. Piston filling system has been fully overhauled, piston slides
with ease and draws up full chamber of ink. Ink view window is exceptionally
clear. Cap to barrel threads, firm and positive, as is the clip.
Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
Most montblanc collectors will be aware of the 1950's models 252, 254 and 256. These pens had slip-on caps and winged nibs. The 264 was only produced for two years from 1957 to 1959. Its design, although similar in appearance to the 25x series, the 264 incorporates a more traditional open style nib and more importantly the mostly preferred screw-on cap. Earlier versions had a plain cap lip band and a Montblanc logo on side of cap. This later version has model number on cap lip band with no model heat stamping to piston turning knob. This pen is fitted with it's original and nib, which is an absolute delight to write with.
