Montblanc Meisterstuck 72 vintage Fountain pen

Montblanc Meisterstuck 72 Vintage Fountain Pen. Black resin barrel with gold filled band at rear, black resin section. Rolled gold pinstripe metal cap, and gold filled pocket clip and trim. Cap lip has 'MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK 72' engraved. Orange faceted ink view window. Montblanc signature stars on both cap and turning knob ends. Helical screw piston filling system with elastomer piston seal. Pull off, push on cap which may be posted on rear of barrel. Original 18K gold broad wing nib with ebonite ink feeder. Germany mid 1960's.

Restoration/ Service

Pen has been fully disassembled to component parts and ultrasonically cleaned. Nib and feed assembly removed from section, nib, feed and collar separated, nib polished and re-aligned with feeder and collar. Piston filling mechanism removed, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted for maximum piston travel. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water. 

General Condition

Pen barrel and section are free from cracks, hairlines and noticeable surface scratches. Rolled gold cap shows now signs of pitting or surface ware. Can not be seen in images or on cap itself. there is a tiny dent where cap clip pocket retaining tip contacts cap top, unseen as body of clip totally covers dent. The cap lip imprints are very clear. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to clip and trim is excellent with no pitting or age related ware. Barrel and cap have a high gloss sheen. Piston filling system slides with ease and draws up maximum ink volume. Cap clutch and clip firm and positive. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.

Hepworth Comment

The 1960's model 72 is the rolled gold metal cap version of the Meisterstuck 12. The hooded nib, the triangular shape of the clip and slip-cap show typical design trends of the 1960ís. The broad nib is a very smooth writer.
