Conway Stewart 85 L lever filling vintage fountain pen in red marbled celluloid. Gold filled fittings. Made in England 1957 to 1963.
Cap: Screw on/off cap has single medium gold filled cap band. Diamond shape ended pocket ring clip impressed with Conway Stewart signet, secured with black aluminium jewel.
Barrel: Gold filled lever filling clip has shield impressed with C.S. Signet. Barrel impression reads 'Conway Stewart 85 L - MADE IN ENGLAND'. Black section with lipped front edge.
Nib and Feed
Solid gold 14ct original Conway Stewart C.S.3 nib. Broad stub writing tip. Stamped 'Conway - Stewart - 14 CT GOLD - 3. Nib is a lovely smooth writer, having good flex. Black hard rubber smooth ink feeder.

Restoration and Service
Pen has been fully disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned to remove traces of old ink. New latex sac fitted. Nib and feeder reset within section. Pocket clip, filling lever and nib aligned. Nib tip carefully honed and tuned. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished with barrel imprint masked. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from scratches, with no cracks, hairlines or dents. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket clip, cap bands and filling lever is excellent. Cap to barrel threads positive. Firm pocket clip. Filling lever flush to barrel, positive operation. Barrel imprint excellent. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent overall condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
A good sized, well balanced fountain pen. The Conway Stewart 85L was produced from 1957 to 1963. The 85L (long) version is around 7.0 mm longer than the Conway Stewart 85, which had been introduced a year earlier.
