Pen has been conservatively restored. Fully disassembled to component parts and ultrasonically cleaned. Cap clip has been stripped of old worn gold and re-electroplated with 14 ct gold (colour matched with cap ring). Piston mechanism removed, piston seal screw pressure adjusted for good vacuum, lightly lubricated. Nib and feed re-aligned within BHR collar. Section and nib assembly rosin sealed back into barrel. Pen barrel and cap delicately hand polished. Reassembled, write tested and finally flushed with clean water.
Pen barrel and cap are free from noticeable scratches, with no dents, cracks or hairlines. There are no personalisation. Gold plating to pocket clip and cap band is excellent, showing no signs of age related ware. Piston filling system has been fully overhauled, piston slides with ease and draws up good ink volume. Ink view window is exceptionally clear. Cap to barrel threads are firm and positive, as is the clip. Overall pen is ready to write and is in excellent condition. Pen is supplied in bespoke Hepworth Dixon card box.
The Monte-Rosa was originally designed to be a student fountain pen, and was fitted with a steel nib. The pen had the designation '0-42'. Later models had a gold nib fitted as standard, and the designation became '042 G'.
